Question #102: Dan and Jay: In Chapter 18 of your kids' book you ask the question "What if my (son's) coach says you're full of bunk". While your answer satisfies my son and me, his coach opines "Who's Dan Bylsma and what does he know. I've been coaching for 20 years..." Are there others who espouse insights or views similar to your "homespun philosophy"? Hockey Mom Dan Replies: Dear Hockey Mom: Thank you for your commendation and yes - there are others, many others, whose writings echo the same philosophy about youth sports that we do in our books, newsletters and on the web site. Check out the Center for Sports Parenting at www.sportsparenting.org for example. Their panel of experts include sports psychologists, educators, professional athletes, coaches, MD's etc. that reads like a Who's Who in the field of youth athletics. Time spent reading their articles and FAQ will be well spent. Although we're not sure that all the experience and degrees in the world will convince someone who's been "coaching for 20 years".
